My New and Improved Blog

Well, here it is mid-January, and most people are well on their way to achieving, breaking or forgetting about their New Year’s resolutions. But, what with my tendency to procrastinate and all, I’m just getting around to making one. And so my New Year’s resolution is to quit blogging about finance, (which I never did anyway) and start a new and improved blog. My new blog will be called–whenever I figure out how to change the title–the Do Something Different Blog. Catchy, right? Okay, so it’s not the world’s most clever title. But still, it’s a good idea, I think. My plan is to do something different every week for 2011, and then blog about it.  I’m also making this the 2011 theme for my column in The Mercury.

Here are a few things I plan to try for the first time, and blog or write about about:

  • Sky diving (ha ha, just kidding. I’m not doing anything crazy, just normal stuff I’d like to try but haven’t).

So, for real, here’s my rough draft of ideas:

  • Get a massage
  • Go to an opera (this was my daughter’s idea. She’s promised to accompany me).
  • Help out at a soup kitchen
  • Try a new sport (I’m not good at sports so I’m leaning toward something non-competitve. Shuffleboard anyone?)
  • Take a bike maintenance class (so I know what to do when something goes wrong with the vehicle I need for the one sport I do like).
  • Take an art or craft workshop
  • Visit a historic site I’ve never been to
  • Spend a day exploring a part of Philadelphia I’ve never spent much time in.
  • Try a new kind of ethnic  food (I’ve never eaten in an Indian restaurant, so I’m thinking  I’ll start there.)
  • Rent a sailboat (on a very calm day in a very small lake).
  • Go on a retreat (maybe)
  • Visit a museum I’ve never been to
  • Try an interesting new recipe
  • Participate in a new community service activity

The more I think about it, the more things I can think of to try. So now I have 52 weeks to try something new every week.  I think I’m going to really like this blog.

Laura, Great Idea!!!! I’m so excited I clicked on your blog today! What a fun thing to do. Lets get Anne and go out for Indian food. There is a great place in Exton. And I know a place for you to get a massage!
